  • The Wesley Hotel supports international and home students, guided by a rich heritage and unique multi-cultural, multi-faith philosophy. We were founded in 1950 by Hilda Porter, a Methodist missionary, who started the organisation after returning to post-war Britain from the Far East, Ms Porter had discovered that London did not offer a secure environment for foreign students to live whilst studying in Capital, and was determined to act for the better.

Since 1998 we have occupied Euston House, a handsome building in Euston Street, Central London, just two minutes walk from Euston Station. We continue to financially support over eighty students from all over the world, studying over 20 disciplines in some of the best colleges in London.

In order to preserve and sustain our heritage, we have established The Hilda Porter Bursary Fund which provides funding for marginalised students and young people in the UK and developing world. This applies to postgraduate and undergraduate students and young people with developing artisan skills. The Wesley Hotel is strongly committed to ethical practices and a clear environmental policy and Christian Social Responsibility. We endeavour to be forward thinking, and we are immensely proud of history, our Methodist heritage and our deeply formed commitments to social and educational causes. We celebrated our 60th anniversary in 2010.

    1) Eco-friendly programmes and initatives

At TheWesley, “green” isn’t just a buzzword, it’s a way of life. Our innovative eco-friendly programs and initiatives are designed to protect our surroundings and minimise our carbon footprint. We believe that business ethics are moral judgements about what is right and what is wrong. Although these decisions are typically made on more personal levels, the culture of our entire hotel enterprise is influenced and guided by this way of thinking.

TheWesley has established an Environmental Management System (EMS) in accordance with the requirements of ISO 14001 since 2010 and has been Accredited a quality achievement certificate for its successful implementation of the management system to monitor and reduce the carbon foot print. The Environmental System is aimed to improve the efficiency of the organisation and contribute to a path of sustainable business growth. An internal audit is being carried out from time to time as it is an ISO 14001 requirement to ascertain the extent to which objectives plans and targets have been met in accordance with the EMS.

AJA registrars (Certificate number AJA12/16189) who are the external auditors conducted the 1st stage audit on 16th April, 2012 with the view of having the EMS formally certified. Suggestions and recommendations from AJA registrars as well as the results of the internal audit has been used regularly.

TheWesley hand picks suppliers that are accredited by Fair Trade, environmental, ethical and working for people and planet. The majority of our food is locally sourced from farms outside London and we only use ingredients from sustainable suppliers. We don’t just take our suppliers’ word for it. Instead, we background check every vendor and personally visit the farms.

We have taken necessary steps to improve our water usage efficiency in the bedrooms and other facilities of the hotel. Most of the bedrooms have reducers installed in the toilet flush and we invested in water efficient kitchen appliances. We also encourage a water conservation policy among all staff.

In order to minimize our impact on the environment, we changed our energy supplier to Good Energy, a company with a 0% carbon footprint energy supply as sourced from renewable energy.

For the past three years all food waste at the hotel has been fully recycled, resulting in a 100% reduction in landfill. TheWesley maintains several waste segregation programs to ensure we are maximising waste reduction in all manner of operations.

As a social enterprise, we provide funds to support education and marginalised international students. We all support WWF by contributing funds to their conservation activities.Overall, we put our effort to improve social, ethical and sustainable business causes.
