  • Care Opinion is a Sheffield-based social enterprise. It is the UK’s leading independent non-profit feedback platform for health services.

    Care Opinion runs a website that allows patients to share their stories about using health services, and then encourages health services to respond to that feedback, showing when they make a change. We believe that online public feedback is a powerful way to help make health services better.

    Care Opinion works because health care organisations are able to easily hear this feedback and share it across staff. When organisations work with Care Opinion, their staff are alerted to relevant feedback, respond, resolving issues in real-time and showing when they make improvements in care.

    Social Impact Statements

    The Social Enterprise Mark criteria includes a requirement that the applicant can demonstrate that social and/or environmental objectives are being achieved.

    In support of this, new applicants and renewing Mark holders must submit Social Impact Statements that summarise their headline activities and achievements, helping show how they are striving to make a difference and stand up to scrutiny of purpose as a social enterprise.

     


    1) Using online public feedback to help improve health services

    Care Opinion runs a website that allows patients to share their stories about using health services, and then encourages health services to respond to that feedback, showing when they make a change. We believe that online public feedback is a powerful way to help make health services better.

    Care Opinion works because health care organisations are able to easily hear this feedback and share it across staff. When organisations work with Care Opinion, their staff are alerted to relevant feedback, respond, resolving issues in real-time and showing when they make improvements in care.

    2) Measures of activity

    Since inception Care Opinion has received over 150,000 stories from patients and users of UK health services and has over 7,000 staff at UK hospitals and health and care providers reading and responding to stories.

    It is the aim of Care Opinion to increase this to 1,000,000 stories and 20,000 staff listening and responding in the next five years.

    These stories are used to simply thanks providers or to help foster a spirit of positive and collaborative improvement.

     


    3) Enabling patients to have a voice

    Enabling citizens and users of UK wide health and social care services to have a voice that often may not be available to them. For example those without access to a computer can still share their stories via telephone or by filling out a feedback form.

    Often we encourage stories from the disadvantaged or those with learning difficulties in order for their experiences and voices to be fully shared and heard.
