SWFT Clinical Services Ltd. is a wholly owned subsidiary of South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust (SWFT).
When SWFT was awarded Foundation Trust status in 2010, it was one of the first in the country to set up a limited company as a subsidiary. Since then, many other Foundation Trusts have set up similar Pharmacy businesses, and the model is now well established. The Company commenced operating in March 2011. The Company operates the outpatient pharmacies for the Trust based at Warwick and Stratford Hospitals, and provides finance and IT consultancy within the NHS and clinical staff to The Grafton Suite (formerly The Stratford Clinic). It has recently developed a facilities and estates management service, under which it manages the Stratford-upon-Avon hospital on behalf of SWFT.
The Company’s primary purpose is to develop income for the Trust through commercial activities. All profits made by the Company’s trading activities are either reinvested in the business or returned to the Trust for reinvestment in health care services.

Social Impact Statements
The Social Enterprise Mark criteria includes a requirement that the applicant can demonstrate that social and/or environmental objectives are being achieved.
In support of this, new applicants and renewing Mark holders are asked to respond to a set of social impact questions, which are designed to help them think about the social impact they create, and to articulate this clearly and succinctly.

1) What social differences and changes have you aimed to create (or supported)?
We strive to influence patient choice by providing efficient services enabling patients to retain ownership of their health and social care requirements.
2) What actions have you taken to address the above social aims?
We provide services which are primarily influenced, shaped and directed by the end user, i.e. home delivery continence products, prescription and medicine outpatient services, establishment and provision of a community and wellbeing centre and consultancy services.
3) What has changed and what benefits have been realised as a result of your actions?
A much improved health agenda, resulting in patients, users and the wider community members having access to joined up services which drive down medical or drug dependency resulting in a healthier and more balanced community, thereby reducing the cost burden on the public purse.
4) How do you and other people know your aims are being achieved? Or how will you know?
We measure performance against objectives set out in our company business strategy. We will report against objectives and key performance indicators on a monthly basis the company board of directors and on an annual basis to the company’s parent and shareholder.
The below questions are not mandatory, but Mark holders are encouraged to answer them where possible, to provide a fuller account of their social outcomes and the social value they create.
5) How many people have benefitted from your actions?
In excess of six figures is the cumulative total across all the services provided by the company. Depending on the nature of the service, these many thousands are drawn from a local, regional and occasionally national geographic footprint.
6) What examples can you provide of a typical service user experience, that helps illustrate the benefits they have experienced as a result of your actions?
Residential placements, nursing home provision, housebound people, groups provided with clinical, health or community services within their home or residential setting.
7) What additional social benefits have you been able to deliver within your core services that distinguish you from other “for shareholder profit” providers?
Through our success we have been able to redistribute an element of our profits to good causes, i.e. local and regional charities undertaking complimentary activities for which without our donation they would be unable to continue at such a high operational capacity.
We are driven by the provision of social inclusion and cohesion, not profit margins.
8) What other social benefits have you contributed that go beyond your core delivery activities (ones that are completely unrelated to your main services)?
- Provision of employment opportunities
- Retention of economic growth
- Indirectly we support volunteer community activities
- Donations to local and regional charitable organisations: £35k to The Shakespeare Hospice and £25 to Birth and Babies, an enhanced maternity service at Warwick Hospital.
9) What social and environmental benefits have you created from internal operational policies and actions?
Environmental benefits in excess of £20million due to the delivery of cutting edge environmentally friendly health and wellbeing centre in Stratford-upon-Avon.
