Social Enterprise Mark Ambassadors

To drive wider recognition of social enterprise accreditation, the Social Enterprise Mark Ambassador Scheme brings together individuals from social enterprises across the country, which are striving to make create positive social and environmental impacts.

An inaugural group of Social Enterprise Mark Ambassadors was established in 2013, representing a diverse range of sectors, from communications to healthcare. What made this group stand out is their skill at communicating their company values to their customers, employees and other stakeholder groups. Charlie Dorman

Charlie Dorman

Connection Crew

Charlie Dorman is Director of London-based social enterprise Connection Crew.

He has a wealth of experience in logistics and event production and has been operating professionally in corporate events for the last fifteen years.

His passion for running a social enterprise is driven by his experience of working with Connection at St Martins and he regularly volunteers with the charity in their work with London’s homeless communities.

FRC Group

Shaun Doran is CEO of the award winning social enterprise FRC Group based in Liverpool. Shaun’s remit is to ensure that FRC Group’s trading companies – Bulky Bob’s, Furniture Resource Centre and Bulky Bob’s Furniture World – create a return against the double bottom line of commercial success and social dividend.

Shaun also manages the business development programme, which includes the incremental growth of existing businesses, the creation of new social businesses and the acquisition of or merger with private companies and other social enterprise.

Julie Hawker is Chief Executive at Cosmic, an I.T. services social enterprise based in rural East Devon, offering a range of high quality services, including websites, training, tech support and consultancy to clients and organisations across the South West and the whole of the UK.

Julie is passionate about ensuring that services are of the highest quality and that social objectives remain high on the agenda – for businesses, community organisations and individuals alike, and especially for young people. She is a keen follower of ICT and its effect on society, and has been involved in many projects aiming to improve digital inclusion.

Julie cares passionately about social enterprise as it represents THE business model which can truly bring about social change and benefits to people whilst at the same time being sustainable, successful, competitive and effective.

In 2015, Julie won the Women in Social Enterprise Award at the UK Social Enterprise Awards.

Kate Welch

Social Enterprise Acumen CIC

Kate Welch OBE DL is Founder and Chief Executive of the Acumen group of social enterprises, which works across the north of England in disadvantaged communities developing an enterprising culture in which jobs and new social businesses are created and individuals are energised, engaged and supported into economic activity.

In 2008 Kate was awarded an OBE for services to Social Enterprise in the North East and was the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year Social award winner for the North. She was chosen as one of the 100 most entrepreneurial women in the UK in 2009.

Kate has an MA from the Department of Social Policy at the University of York. She chairs the Mature and Working Lives Regional Advisory Group for the Public Health Board. She chairs the Mature and Working Lives Regional Advisory Group for the Public Health Board. She is an RSA Fellow and supports a number of small social enterprises and social entrepreneurs as a Director or mentor and is active in the Methodist Church and Girlguiding UK.
