In the latest instalment of our Social Enterprise Women’s Leadership Network, we will be joined by guest speaker Dr Jane Craig, who has been leading some very interesting work on purpose led strategy and has developed a new type of P&L.
Below is a summary of the topic that she will cover.
Purpose-led Strategy in everyday Business Practice
Business leaders today are coming under increasing pressure from employees, consumers, investors, and governments to embed sustainable and responsible ESG practices. This reflects a new horizon for value creation which is about profiting from creating solutions for people and the planet, not profiting from creating problems. Purpose has moved beyond the inspirational statement hanging in reception to a strategic driver and an innovation opportunity.
In this session, Jane will explore a management innovation and toolkit designed to accompany organizations as they transition to this new paradigm, allowing them to deliver greater value to people and planet, significantly reduce negative externalities and create sustainable business returns. She will seek to illustrate how some present-day business tools need to evolve in order to drive more sustainable decision making. With real world examples of organisations who are stepping into this space and the innovation opportunities they are uncovering, while simultaneously developing a greater appreciation of how to more honestly measure and account for their impact. The journey to more purpose-led strategy requires as much unlearning, as it does learning!
Three new business approaches Jane will cover:
– Innovating to address pain-points across the whole ecosystem
– Changing what you measure to better understand your value creation model
– Leveraging a new type of P&L to fuel decisions which sustain your most important capitals
